Q is for… Quindim


Time for something sweet. Quindim are ring-shaped street treats that sell like hot cakes in Rio. The tasty golden rings are a popular bite-size dessert all over Brazil. Made from sugar, egg yolks and ground coconut, the custardy sweets are usually upturned, presenting their glistening golden surfaces to tempt any foodie passers-by looking for a sugar hit.

With such a throng of sports fans in Rio, there’s no doubt that city-wide, savvy artisan bakers and food stall hawkers across the city will want to make the most of the opportunity to add to their customer base. Cue baking of the utmost daring – Quindim rings deftly coloured and creatively presented in the same formation of the five famous rings – and the inevitable official clamp-down as a result…
