The British public love the theatre of sporting competition, especially the drama of an unsung hero. But how much public funding do our athletes receive to stand any chance of securing a place on the podium? Reports suggest a staggering £350m. With a target of 48 podium finishes, that’s £7,291,666.67 per medal. A pretty penny, we’re sure you’d agree. To put that into perspective, Jordan (the country, not Michael) gets a total of just $15m in their athletes’ funding pot, mainly thanks to their generous Prince. They are, however, yet to win anything. But, who knows? Maybe this will be Jordan’s year…
