E is for… Ex-President

Noticeably absent from the opening ceremony, it’s looking increasingly likely that suspended President Dilma Rousseff will be permanently ousted from her seat in the coming weeks. As all eyes remain glued to the Latin American nation to watch the world’s greatest sporting event, Brazil is facing one of its biggest economic and political crises.

Suspended since May, Ms. Rousseff (or Dilma, as she is more commonly known to locals) is now to face full hearings in the Senate on allegations of illegal accounting manoeuvres to mask a widening budget gap. Pulling no punches, on the eve of last Friday night’s Opening Ceremony the Senate voted overwhelmingly to recommend her impeachment. Ouch!
